Presidential Geek Survey Diary – Day 198

With 39% of the vote, “Uncommitted” took a surprising second place behind Hillary Clinton (56%) in Michigan’s Democratic primary (you know, the state with no Democratic delegates and no real competition). Uncommitted did not have to run against the Barack Obama juggernaut, but he was at a distinct disadvantage considering his lack of existence. Also, despite his lack of corporeal form, Uncommitted responds to the Geek Survey!

1. Who is your favorite super-hero?
Doctor Manhattan from Watchmen. After he was disintegrate he managed to pull himself back together in an effort I find truly inspiring. I hope to be able to do that for this country – pull it back together from the nothing that was left over when some idiot forgot to program an override for our automatic lock. Plus, he’s blue, which is cool.

2. Star Wars or Star Trek?
Neither. Doctor Who (I’ve got a thing for doctors)

3. What was the last science fiction, fantasy, or horror film you watched?
The coverage of the Michigan Democratic primary. Just kidding! Really, I see so many movies that it’s hard to keep track. That’s one of the advantages to being non-corporeal – it’s easy to sneak into movies.

4. Do you now collect or have you ever been a collector (stamps, coins, comics, etc.)?
I’ve been collecting gloves since I was a kid. It represents a kind of cynical acceptance of my digitless condition.

5. What do you consider your geekiest trait?
I spend too much time on the internet. It eats up a lot of time – I was actually late to some campaign stops in Michigan because I lost track of time while on the net. Turns out I could have missed all of those campaign stops and still pulled in second.

6. What science-fiction type item do you wish existed here and now?
I’d like to see a cyborg body that I could download my consciousness into. Do you know how hard it is to film a commercial or get a date when you don’t have a body? It’s pretty challenging. So, a cyborg would be good (it would be even better if I got to look the The Terminator).

7. What do you consider the most science fiction-y thing that actually exists here and now?
A free floating consciousness unrestrained by a physical form. That would be me, if you haven’t been paying attention.

8. If you could meet one genre-fiction character, who would it be and why?
Doctor Who – preferably the 9th Doctor. I’d love to shove Rose out of the Tardis and be the Doctor’s companion.

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
