Presidential Geek Survey Diary – Day 195

Last week, Hillary Clinton found her voice in New Hampshire. This week, she used that voice to denigrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

While defending her experience over Barack Obama’s oratory flair, Hillary said, “Dr. King’s dream began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It took a president to get it done.”

I doubt Hillary intended to downplay the importance of MLK in the civil rights movement. This is most likely an accidental gaffe due to breaking in that new found voice (as well as being tired and possibly a bit pissed that New Hampshire gals voted for her because of her tears and not her experience – that’s gotta suck).

I’m waiting for Mitt Romney to demand an apology since, you know, he was so moved when the Mormon church decided to let African-Americans join and Mittens saw his dad march with MLK (“saw” in the same way that Darth Vader “murdered” Anakin Skywalker – it was true, from a certain point of view, but that doesn’t change the fact that Obi-Wan was a twit).

Hillary, you could use a short break. Nothing huge, just a few minutes. Take those few minutes to respond to the Geek Survey, where there’s little room for that kind of gaffe.

And in the meantime, don’t pick up voices you find on the ground in New Hampshire. You don’t know where they’ve been.
