@PocaUna ~ Oh, I agree completely, I was just describing her argument -- perhaps not very well. I did later say

I’ve seen some military types say that he didn’t have any right to take her off of active duty, that women in the military stay at their posts unless their work is life-threatening. I think what we have here is a failure to communicate: like Sheppard says, their lives are at risk every time they step through the gate! How does that not qualify him to remove her from active duty, of a woman can be removed during pregnancy if her life is endangered?

and

From Teyla’s side of things, though, I can see her point: her people are in danger every moment of their lives, pregnant or no, and as a leader, she must do all she can to make the universe as safe as possible. Not to mention that it seems a number of worlds would have been impossible to evacuate if not for her help, so thousands would have died versus two being simply at risk. Still, any pregnant member of her people would be safer in Atlantis than she would be planetside; you’d think Teyla would want to take advantage of that for the child’s sake, particularly if she and her child turn out to be the last of their people! If she’s going to keep the child, then she has a duty to make every effort to keep it alive. And her pregnancy is only her own business so long as it doesn’t interfere with her job: obviously it will hinder her when she gets further along, and they would notice it by then anyway. It’s John’s duty, first and foremost, to look after the welfare of his team, which, at least until it’s born, now includes her baby; he could not do that job adequately without knowing all the variables.

Ultimately, I side with John -- I just have sympathy for Teyla and an appreciation for he reasoning, even if I wouldn't have handled the situation that way.

"...with her insisting that, among her people, it is common for women to remain active well into their pregnancy..."

She didn't just say active, she said 'active within the community' which is different than active duty in the military.

Plus, the body does some crazy things when you're pregnant; like make you start vomiting uncontrollably at the most random (and common) smells, which wouldn't come in handy if your smeller kicks in when you're in a gun fight.

I'm all about girl power, but I'm also about realism; a pregnant gal changes the rules dramatically. John has to take into account everyone's lives, and not knowing everything about the health of his people can put lives at risk.

@Robin ~ Doh! I just realised you were the one who posted the explanation for the "Colonel" thing, not Jen. Sorry!

@Jen ~ true, but Joe might be being sneaky. What's "real", after all?

As for Carson, I can’t help but think about the fact that the Replicators made copies of everyone else ….

Joe M has said several times that Carson would be the REAL Carson.... *shrug* Either way I'm looking forward to seeing what happens!

@ Robin ~ Hello! :D

I was about ready to reach through the TV screen and bop the alpha team’s heads if they didn’t notice soon.

You and me both! XD ... I've never seen Heartland, but Fran looks familiar to me, too ...

@ Jen~ Aha! Yes, that was the scene I was thinking of, thanks!

I loved your paragraph on the Rodney and Ellis conflict.

Thanks! I struggled with that one quite a bit, catually -- it was also further up in the review, and was two long paragraphs ... I'm working on getting more consise, I swear -- I'm just nmot succeeding all that well! XD

Yeah but the fact that he DOESN’T and pretty much ignores Ellis to keep working speaks for itself (and I don’t think it’s JUST because of the guilt or his ego).

Yes! And Don't I just adore him for that! *grin*

Any other episode the whole thing with “Fran” would have ended badly. But since this time they (the writers) wanted the Replicators destroyed so they could end that plot line the plan worked as it was meant to.

It would have made for great drama, too, but for the sake of my nerves (and for Rodney's sake), I'm glad they plot necessitated a happier end result, heheheh ...

As for Carson, I can't help but think about the fact that the Replicators made copies of everyone else ....

I have to agree that this episode was a nail-biter. Lots of good action AND character development AND a twisty-turny plot. What more can a fangirl ask for? Martin Gero may be a total goofball, but dang can that guy write compelling television.

I'm glad they finally revealed Teyla's pregnancy. Thanks to Joe M's blog, I've known that Rachel was pregnant for months and it's been pretty obvious in the last few episodes, despite the wardrobe department's best efforts. I was about ready to reach through the TV screen and bop the alpha team's heads if they didn't notice soon.

On a somewhat random note, I thought the actress playing FRAn looked familiar. At first I thought I recognized her from an early episode of seaQuest, but after some poking on the interwebs, I found out that she was in half a dozen episodes of Heartland last year. Can't say as I remember her character in that, but it does explain the familiarity.

"There’s a highly amusing exchange of “Colonels” among them, Carter, and Sheppard, to which McKay says, “Seriously?” (Where have I seen a routine like that before? People in the forums are talking about Spies Like Us, but I’m not even sure I’ve seen that film, much less remember the scene in question, so I’m thinking someone else must have referenced it too ….)"

Perhaps you're remembering the bit from the beginning of the SG-1 episode 'Tangent' (4.12), that goes a little something like this:

DAVIS: "Colonel Jack O'Neill, Major Samantha Carter, Doctor Daniel Jackson, allow me to introduce to you Lieutenant General Vidrine."

VIDRINE: "Colonel."

O'NEILL: "General."

VIDRINE: "Major."

CARTER: "General."

VIDRINE: "Doctor."

DANIEL: "General."

Awesome review as always! I LOVE MY CRAZY SHOW!

I loved your paragraph on the Rodney and Ellis conflict. You pretty much explained everything about the whole issue (and reminded me of a few things I had failed to consider when I was watching it).

Also: "If I were Rodney, I would have been sorely tempted to just thrown my hands up into the air, then told Ellis to fix the damn problem himself, and not come crawling to me when he couldn't solve it."

Yeah but the fact that he DOESN'T and pretty much ignores Ellis to keep working speaks for itself (and I don't think it's JUST because of the guilt or his ego).

Also, loved your discussion about Teyla and John as well.

Gotta love how plans work only when the writers decide they should. Any other episode the whole thing with "Fran" would have ended badly. But since this time they (the writers) wanted the Replicators destroyed so they could end that plot line the plan worked as it was meant to.

You're theories about Teyla are cool. I've got a few about Carson that fit in with your theories. There's the whole fact that Micheal knows way to much about genetics (I suppose he could have been a scientist but still) and I'm wondering if he stole Carson's knowledge while he had Carson prisoner in "Misbegotten"? Plus there's the wondering how Carson is going to return and I still think Micheal managed to do something sneaky...
