Blood Ties – Deleted from Your TiVo, Courtesy of Lifetime

By Nancy Matthews

It seems that Lifetime has unceremoniously dumped the final two episodes of Blood Ties online. There was no announcement that I know of. One day the next episode was on my Tivo to do list and the next day it was gone. It would seem that Lifetime has no more respect for fans than any other channel. I suppose we should be somewhat thankful we saw any of the second half of the season at all.

I was going to watch
the episodes online and post reviews of them, but after reading Tanya Huff’s personal blog (not the official Lifetime version ). I’ve decided against it. Tanya Huff is asking fans not to watch online as a way of supporting the WGA strike. One of the main sticking points of the negotiations between the two sides is about being paid for work that is streamed or downloaded. At this point airing the episodes online means the writers get shafted.

In a very bad ass move, Ms. Huff has asked that fans wait until the episodes have aired on Canadian television and then BitTorrent them. She kind of rocks.

Granted, the writers won’t get anything this way either, but neither will the network. As genre fans we tend to be more supportive of writers than most fans, I suspect. We all know that even though Sarah Michelle Gellar physically embodied Buffy, it was Joss Whedon’s words that came so beautifully out of her mouth. Therefore, I will not cross the virtual picket line either.
