Fair points really. *shrug* I tried to explain it more in my blog (the post before the review for Missing) but I'm realizing it's mainly just me not wanting to see Carson and John bashed so much and as such I'm trying to explain away why the two don't seem to take Rodney's issues seriously.

@Jen ~ true, I've always suspected that Rodney's citrus allergy was psyhcosomatic (although being psychosomatic means that, if he is given something he learns has citrus in it, his body goes into very real symptoms. Mind-over-matter is an amazing thing -- we can talk ourselves into wellness, but we can talk ourselves into illness.) But we know Daniel's allergies were real and he was still allowed to travel. (And, believe it or not, a citrus allergy *is* possible, just unlikely.) Even without Rodney's status as a genuis and specialist in Ancient technology (meaning he has information they depseratley need and would have a very hard time going without), he's not military, so I could see them being more lenient on some health issues (particulalry when his skills are that valued). Scientists seem unhealthy as a matter of course, anyway, so they'd be hard-pressed to find ones in militarily-acceptable shape. ;) Now, having a good deal of experience in this regard, I don't doubt in the slightest that Rodney is hypoglycaemic (it actually would just give him more reason to be cranky all the time, emotional scarring aside), or that he has other allergies -- these are fairly common afflictions, after all.

But yeah, this does seem another case of the writers making the characters look bad for the sake of a laugh.

And cool, I'll update my bookmarks! :)

Yay! :O)

Hmm I didn't really think that Telya was out of character - given that she used to be the leader of her people and finding them gone had to be a bit of a shock. Though I do think they were playing up the extremes of the two characters for dramatic effect. Teyla being the warrior and Keller being "timid". Maybe they took it a little TOO far in places but not really that bad.

The weapons cache as meant to complicate the plot only it became a plot hole because of the way they did it. Like you said it doesn't really make sense for the weapons to be that far away from the village. Which of course is what always happens - the writers try to complicate the plot by adding something in and it causes a plot whole because people can say "well why didn't they just do [something else] instead?" :O)

I have to comment on Rodney - see the problem for me is that I never really took all of his medical issues THAT seriously. I know he doesn't admit to being a hypochondriac until season two but I pretty much ALWAYS figured he was just a hypochondriac because it doesn't really make sense for him to have been allowed to go to Atlantis if he REALLY had all of those serious medical issues. Yeah you could argue that he was able to go despite the medical issues because he's a genius but still I think it makes more sense that he's just a hypochondriac who needs to be told to knock it off when he starts panicking about something.

It's the same thing with his "allergies" - I know it looks like John acts like he doesn't believe them but what if it's true that he DOESN'T actually have any allergies? I mean as Rodney's team leader I think he'd have checked with Carson to see what was up with Rodney's medical file in case he need to know something before adding Rodney to his team. Yeah I know I'm probably defending John (and Carson too) simply because I hate it when John (and Carson) get bashed for not taking Rodney seriously but still I think it's worth noting that Rodney isn't all that reliable when it comes to giving accurate medical information about himself.

Of course the REAL problem is the writers who seem to think that madical issues are funny to joke about - which has nothing to do with the characters and how they treat each other...
