I'm going to watch the episode again in a few minutes and try to keep any thoughts of what other people might be thinking out of my head... :O) Plus it will be during the middle of the day and not at 10pm with me being over tired!

“better too much info than too little.”

I get that, I really do. It's just that to me it SEEMS excessive and not needed. Plus it's pretty clear that it's something that John just doesn't want to hear. He doesn't want to hear negatives that will ruin his optimism. And unfortuantly Rodney just never lets up - which is why John finally snapped at him about it. (Think basically I'm being like John in this situation - I don't want to hear the negatives either).

Thanks for reading and for the pingback, jrscifi! :)

The John/Rodney snark seemed relatively par for the course to me. Yeah, they were friendlier in "Adrift", but they were also in shock and stressed beyond the norm (which, considering how stressing their norm typically is, is saying a *lot*). Reverting to old habits once they weren't scrambling to take care of a bajillion things at the same time, with everyone potentially about to die any second, was probably a sort of comfort for both of them. Notice that later, at least for a little while there back in Atlantis, Rodney was once again subdued, the way he'd been in much of "Adrift". Hell, so was John, here and there, like when he gave Rodney that nod about jumping to that planet, and in the chair, right after landing the city. (It seemed like everything just hit him at once there, poor guy!) I attribute their loss of snarkiness in those moments to the shock of losing Elizabeth.

John's normal stress-coping mechanism seems to be snapping at people. Unfortunately for Rodney, being the to-go-to guy means he's in the line of fire most of the time. And, well, he can be frustrating to deal with, slow and methodical in situations that need quick action. Which hey, not his fault exactly, it takes as long as it takes -- just like it's not John's fault they often don't have that kind of time.

So basically, only John's turnaround on the Elizabeth situation really had me doing a double-take -- well, that and Ronon's crankiness. But both of those things I could still somewhat explain away to myself, enough to get past it at least.

Heh, I guess I'm too much like Rodney -- his whininess and penchant for listing the ways they could die almost always seems entirely understandable/acceptable to me. I suspectthat if he didn't list them all and something unexpected happened, he'd get in huge trouble for *not* having mentioned it. I'm all about "better too much info than too little." (Drives my doctors *nuts*.)

Ment to comment on this: “It never ends with you, does it?” Sheppard asks, annoyed. “What?” Rodney asks, perplexed at John’s tone. (Married!) I’m a bit perplexed myself; would he rather Rodney didn’t point out potential problems?

I have to admit Rodney's constaint whining about everything that could go wrong IS very annoying (funny most of the time but still, annoying). And I could esally see how John would just want him to shut up for once. Rodney does NOT have to list every single thing that could go wrong.

/ Yay! Once again I'm amazed at how awesome and thorough your review was! Much better than mine which focused to much on the wrong things, I think. And I even commented on how much more snarky the boys were with each other and you didn't. It's weird that it bugged me... Maybe I was thinking too much about how other people MIGHT react to it... who knows. Also I do think there was a huge difference between how the two writers of the two episodes wrote the characters and it was a bit jarring. Even though I should have expected it since I knew it was by a different writer.
