MoveOn.org took out an ad in the New York Times this week which referred to General Petraeus as “General Betray Us”. Naturally, the GOP candidates are up in arms about this, but John McCain went so far as to say:
“It’s disgraceful, it’s got to be retracted and condemned by the Democrats, and MoveOn.org ought to be thrown out of this country.”
John, you can say that sort of thing in Arizona because this is a state of gun-toting wackos and we kinda get you, even down here in Tucson, the lone blue spot on the state map. We know you have these outbursts and probably don’t really mean what you said. You’re kind of like our crotchety old grandpa who gets to ranting at the Sunday barbecue.
But, you can’t say this kind of thing to the rest of the country. They don’t get you.
While you’re backpedaling on your comment, John, consider responding to the Pink Raygun Geek Survey. It’s a written thing, so there’s no opportunity for crotchety audio outbursts which threaten the safety of our right to free speech.
