Babylon 5 Beeline: Signs and Portents

Babylon 5 Signs and PortentsWoohoo! Mr. Morden finally shows up on Babylon 5 bringing his pompadour and crabby associates with him. Morden visits the ambassadors, asking a simple enough question: what do you want?

“A slice of chocolate swirl cheesecake,” isn’t the answer he’s looking for. That’s what my answer would have been because I always want cheesecake.

Mmmmm. Cheesecake
.

Predictably, G’Kar says he wants revenge on the Centauri for enslaving the Narn, but beyond that, he really just wants cheesecake, too. Londo wants something more ambitious, and says so to Morden.

“I want to see
the Centauri stretch forth their hand again and command the stars,” he says. “I want a rebirth of glory, a renaissance of power! I want to stop running through my life like a man late for an appointment, afraid to look back or look forward. I want us to be what we used to be! I want… I want it all back the way it was.”

For Morden, that’s better than cheesecake and it kicks off a very unhealthy relationship between the Centauri and the Shadows.

Londo’s relative is visiting the station with his aunt, Lady Ledira, who has visions of the future, and like most characters who are seers, she overacts her little bald head off.

“PAIN, BLOOD, DEATH!” she sputters as her eyes bug out and she collapses. She lets a scream escape her twisted mug as she sees her nephews fate in the bottom of a tea cup. Seriously. Ledira looks in to her tea cup and sees her nephew’s ship destroyed by a Shadow Battlecrab.

Babylon 5 Signs and PortentsJoining in the overacting melee is Delenn, who’s been fairly reserved since she last flipped out in the Soul Hunter episode. Her face gets twisty too, as she screams “GET OUT!” to Mr. Morden when he asked his question. Then a little blue triangle appeared on her forehead. Does anyone know what that was?

The appearance of
the Shadow Battlecrab toward the end is one of the best moments of the episode, and not only because it destroys a raider ship, thankfully ending the poorly acted argument between the crew and their renegade Centauri passenger. It’s also just a bad ass looking ship.

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
