Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, Bill Richardson and Dennis Kucinich participated in a debate sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign and Logo on Thursday night where they danced around the issue of same-sex marriage while trying to grab votes from the gay community.
The Democratic candidates, with the exception of Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel, agree that same-sex couples should have the same rights as married couples.
But without the right to be legally married.
At least the Democrats are openly addressing gay rights issues by engaging in the Logo/ HRC debate. The Republican candidates were invited to have a similar debate and they all refused, which isn’t surprising since gay rights conflicts with the “family values” vote, which the GOP has been courting for decades.
Because bigotry and discrimination are clearly family values.
Is that why the Republican candidates are avoiding the Pink Raygun Presidential Geek Survey? Are they worried that Melissa Etheridge is lurking around here somewhere, waiting to pounce? Is it too pink for them and they’re afraid they’re going to “catch the gay”?
First, Republican candidates refused to participate in the CNN/YouTube debate. Now they’ve refused to participate in the HRC/ Logo debate. Is there anyone they want to talk to?
