Babylon 5 Beeline: And the Sky Full of Stars

Oh, God, there are sixteen more episodes in season one. I made it through “Infection” and I’d like for the viewing to painless from here, but that is not in the cards. “And the Sky Full of Stars” is a Sinclair-centric episode that allows him to stretch and add to his melodramatic skills. Now his acting arsenal includes anger (grrrr!), menace (hhhrrrmmmm!) and shocked disbelief (aaahhh!).

“And the Sky Full of Stars” brings a mysterious duo to the station with a kind of mind control/ virtual reality device, which they use to penetrate Sinclair’s memories, forcing him to relive his lost 24 hours from the Battle of the Line ten years prior.

mysterious duoWhy? Because the duo represent a radical group on Earth that thinks Sinclair was actually working with the Minbari and knows something about somebody, somewhere. You roll your eyes, but knowing something about somebody somewhere is exactly the kind of thing that can get you thrown in detention at Guantánamo Bay.

Sinclair originally thought he blacked out, but it turns out he was picked up by the Minbari cruiser he was charging with his little fighter and poked and prodded by the Grey Council. “Shocked disbelief” is cued when Sinclair learns that one of his captors was Delenn.
Grey Coundil
Why was he charging a huge ship with a tiny fighter? Doesn’t size matter in that area? Yes, it does. But, the Earth-Minbari war was so brutal, humans were reduced to kamikaze tactics. It wasn’t a war Earth won legitimately – the Minbari had sworn total extermination of the human race and were succeeding. Then, at the Battle of the Line, after poking and prodding Sinclair, they called the whole thing off.

If you’re already familiar
with the series, “And the Sky Full of Stars” is anti-climactic because we already know what happened to him. And we know considerably more than is revealed in this episode.

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
