Heroes: How to Stop an Exploding Man

Heroes - Season 1I was a little disappointed that the Peter/ Sylar stand off was so short; I was expecting something closer to the Neo/ Agent Smith show down, only less ridiculous and anti-climactic. But, it was gratifying to see the heroes act as a team against the villain. It was like they were the X-Men, but without that whole ‘fighting-to-save-a-world-that-hates-them’ martyr complex. Especially Nathan, since he was in denial for so long and was so willing to go along with his mom’s and Linderman’s evil plot.

“Call me Noah.” That’s not really an ass kicking name, but I guess it suits Bennett (the creepy guy formerly known as Horn Rimmed Glasses) since he’s been collecting and tagging what’s essentially a new species. Actually, his creep factor went down steadily since the”Homecoming” episode, and was completely dwarfed by the mighty creepiness of Eric Roberts.

“You look bad ass.” I was so glad to see Hiro’s dorky smile one last time before he charged off to save the world. He’s been my favorite character because he dealt with his ability in way that I think a lot of comic book reading geeks would, and also because he learned that being a hero is more than just an adventure in saving people: it’s constantly putting yourself on the line to do so.

“I know you’re there, Peter.” John thought early in the season that Simone’s dad had an ability that had something to do with dreams because Peter started having his prophetic dreams about flying when he went to work for them. That vision of his when he was out cold (on a suspiciously empty New York street) had to be a dream.

About Mama Petrelli’s ability (I know I keep bringing it up, but it’s driving me nuts); for a long time I was convinced that all she had was the power of Botox or something. Now, I’m finally buying into the idea that Mama Petrelli sees the future, although in a more abstract way than Isaac. In Peter’s vision, she said that Nathan would be the hero, and she was right about that, but got all the details wrong.

“When I think about him, he can see me.” I’m already loving the set ups for season two. Molly says there’s another bad guy out there (isn’t there always?). Sylar has slithered away into the sewers. Hiro bent time and space, landing outside Kyoto in 1671 between an army and Takezo Kensei (notice the glyph on the banner?). The lone horseman at the end was totally George Takei. Looking forward to seeing where that goes!

  1. Do you know when is season 2 starting?

    I can’t wait !

“bad ass” was a bit of a translation stretch… “kakko ii” means something more akin to “you look good.” But I saw Masi Oka on The View (did I just admit that?) and I think he said he does his own translations, so go figure.

  3. Don’t know when season 2 is starting yet. Not soon enough, as far as I’m concerned. :)

Sco Dogg!!! I’m sure you were watching The View in an ironic sense, the way I sing Barry Manilow’s “Mandy” and “It’s a Miracle” at karaoke, or watch “Walker, Texas Ranger” at 3 in the morning.

    Ahhhh. . . Chuck Norris. . .

  4. I read on Greg Beeman’s blog that they’re not expecting the new season to be ready for liftoff before late September/early October. That’s a long damn time to wait, especially with next season’s teasers being so freaking cool – Hiro in feudal Japan? Unseen Big Bad who can See everyone? Bennett planning on taking down the Organization? Peter and Nathan exploding in the stratosphere? GAAAH!

I was actually pretty satisfied with how awkwardly the Heroes banded together for the Sylar battle. There was no way Peter was mentally or physically prepared for an Epic Power-Slinging Battle at this point, and if he’d just gone in there and handily kicked some ass, it would’ve seemed a little cheap to me. Having said that, though, I really hope he survived going nuclear, because I really want to see him gradually coming into his own with his mythic powers.

Is it sad that the #1 reason I want Peter to make it back to earth is his hair? Cos honestly, that’s some hottie hair!! Plus I love the intense look on his face when his hands get all nuclear. I hope he’s hanging up there in the stratosphere just waiting to fall back to earth. I think he should move to Texas to live with the crazy as shit Bennett’s and Mr. Muggles.

Funny thing about Mamma Petrelli: I thought she had the prophetic dreams, but now that I think about it, Simone’s dad makes far more sense. It also makes me sad to realize that Simone’s power may not have been realized before Mr. Izaak (I prefer the way Hiro says it) shot her.

I don’t know if Mega-Bitch counts as a super power, but if it does then Mamma Petrelli’s got that one trademarked and copyrighted. But honestly I hadn’t thought of it as her being right about Nathan saving the day. Maybe she just has really vague visions, most of them fueled by a steady diet of diet pills, martinis and downers. Are there any talents of Peter’s that we haven’t pinned down to a particular hero? Maybe that’s Mamma’s talent.

I hope Origins is as awesome at it has the capacity to be. Anyone else with me in thinking that Hiro’s dad has the whole longevity thing down?

BTW: I am still being super creeped out by Molly’s “When I think about him, he can see me.” Honestly it makes me nauseous, more than a little. I hope that Molly and Micah hook up and make super powered babies in the future.

  6. That is some dreamy hair! And, I agree, Peter should totally go to Texas with Bennett when he gets down from wherever he is. They could start a super team and hero academy!

  7. I can only hope that when the Bennetts’ home is rebuilt, it includes a secret underground room where ninjas always be practicing they moves.

I hate to burst people’s bubbles but my sister saw an interview with Milo Ventimiglia and he had cut his hair and when he was asked about it he said that he had to have a new hair do for the new season of Heroes.
I think that Nathan took Peter up really high and then before Peter could blow dropped him and flew away as fast as he could and they both are going to make it.
