It's like a pin-up from the 40s or 50s. I also don't find it demeaning that she's doing laundry. That's the kind of thing married people (or any one in a healthy relationship) do for each other. It's an accurate representation of what a teenage girl - even a "wholesome one" like MJ - might wear. The girls get it from so many directions (including what they're watching on tv and the music they're listening to) and emulate it. In Arizona, it's so freaking hot that this sort of dress is practically a uniform for teenagers and their mothers (exposed thong season starts here around March and lasts until November).
