Lost to End in 2010

Lost (Music from the ABC Television Series)ABC has set an expiration date for the inhabitants of Craphole Island. The network announced that Lost will air for three more seasons and will end the series in 2010. The remaining seasons will be shortened to 16 episodes each which will run consecutively with no repeats. The next season is expected to being airing in January or February of 2008.

Sure, that means less Lost, but that also means tighter storytelling and maybe finding its direction again. At the beginning, it felt like there was a plan, some sort multiple season story arc that was the guiding light. That disappeared about halfway through season two. Granted, the last few episodes have helped restore some of my faith in the series, but it was so obnoxious for so long that I can’t help but look at Lost with a cocked eyebrow like it has a fist full of lame behind it’s back that’s poised for flinging.

Could this move toward shorter seasons possibly be one of the first signs of quality over quantity in American television? Now if we could only get Fox to commit to a show for an entire season.

  1. I am very happy about this! It gives me so much more respect for the creators of Lost, and for ABC. Quality of storytelling should always trump monetary success…

  2. I definitely think this is a good move for the series. HBO series’ usually run for only 13 episodes and I think that’s one of the things that makes those shows better than network shows.

  3. This is a test of the emergency blog posting system. In the event of an emergency, I would no longer be typing. Instead, I would be screaming my head off and running for the nearest exit, perhaps trampling children or elderly people in my path.

This concludes my test of the emergency blog posting system… :)
