Lost: Stranger in a Strange Land

Lost (Music from the ABC Television Series)Is Kate retarded? She and Sawyer were lucky to get away alive, and as soon as they’re off Others Island, she starts whining, “We have to go back! We have to get Jack!” What are they going to do? Storm Others Island and force them to cooperate by the power of their combined body odor? They have to be pretty stinky by now.

Kate was totally out of character in last night’s episode, Stranger in a Strange Land. Kate doesn’t wait for anyone to give her permission; she does what she wants to do, no matter if it endangers herself or anyone else.

Enough with the JackBacks! We already know he’s a jerk! He had problems with his dad and his ex-wife. After two and a half seasons, I think we get it. I also get that he’s supposed to be deeply flawed in that fetching anti-hero sort of way. Here’s a hint: obsessive isn’t fetching. It’s crazy.
So. . . that Jack is an abusive stalker. He’s on vacation, having a nice vacation fling with a cute Thai girl, who made it very clear that she just wants to have fun. Where does he get off following her, barging into her business and shoving her against a wall? Possessive much? He was like that with his ex-wife, too. No wonder she left him.

On Others Island, Jack has either completely lost it or no one’s sure how to write the character anymore. You’d think he’d be relieved to see people from flight 815 who were assumed dead. Whatever the problem is, Matthew Fox is working with it as best he can. He’s believably crazy around the eyes. I suppose dialogue like “That’s what it says, but that’s not what it means,” would drive any good actor nuts.

Achara, Jack’s Thai Pop Tart, had the gift of seeing a person’s true nature and marking them. Was it really neccessary to get all mystical with Jack’s tattoo? Was it really neccessary to explain the tattoo at all? If we’re going to assign that kind of weight to it, then the tattoo should have it’s own flashback.

The whole thing with Achara made absolutely no sense, but I’m sure people will think she had something to do with the Dharma Initiative, when it’s more likely that she’s a refugee from Primatech Paper. Maybe Achara is the one responsible for Niki/Jessica’s tattoo. The character would have made more sense if she was a simple prostitute or drug runner. Then Jack would have a real reason to follow her: he’d have someone to fix.

After two compelling episodes, I really thought Lost was back. I was thinking about theories and lurking on message boards again. Tonight Lost was back to delivering that “BWAMP” sound before each commercial break to generate false tension because there was no real tension. Ugh. I love Lost. I hate Lost. Lost and I will be going to couple’s counseling in the morning.

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
