Battlestar Galactica: A Day in The Life

Battlestar Galactica: Season 2Battlestar Galactica should have been handled like a British series: produce a couple of short seasons, tell the story, and get out. When there are only six or eight episodes in a season, and the seasons themselves have a limited run, it really encourages the economy of storytelling and discourages filler.

This week’s episode of BSG, A Day in The Life, was filler. Was it really important at this point in the show to explore Adama’s failed marriage and Lee’s anger toward his mommy? If we have to get into personal relationships, I’d be more interested in seeing something with Adama and President Roslin. That’s more immediate. It has more bearing on the story arc.

Namely, an episode of Star Trek: TNG in which Dr. Crusher had to blow some threatening barrels into space by opening the doors to the landing deck. She should have had massive hypothermia after that little stunt. At least BSG addressed the reality of even minimal exposure to space.

This bonus clip thing is irritating. I don’t feel like I’m getting a little bit extra. If there is enough time to show a bonus clip at the end of the episode, why not just use the clip?

Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the character drama. It didn’t move the story forward a bit. I was more riveted by The Amazing Race All-Stars, which is totally predictable. Someone is always going to cry, the dating couples will always argue and Phil Keoghan will always look solemn when he says, “You’re the last team to arrive.”

Lisa Fary's earliest influences are Princess Leia, Rainbow Bright, Astronaut Barbie, and her 6th grade teacher, Ms. Palmer. She's angry that it's 2011 and she still doesn't have a hovercraft, but will accept a jetpack as consolation. That jetpack had better be pink with a rhinestone monogram.
